Aldeia das Dez & Plano5
On the flanks of the Serra do Açor mountains in Portugal lies at an altitude of 550 meters the mountain village Aldeia das Dez, also called the flower village.
At the edge of this rustic village lies Plano5, a mini hotel and Tapasbar unlike any other. A robust design and natural elements have been chosen to rebuild what was originally a 1950s trading post. Throughout the building, materials such as concrete, metal and wood are predominant, finished with post-modern lighting. Special for Portugal is that all rooms, including the bedrooms, are equipped with central heating.
From the terrace surrounding the building, which is decorated in the same style, you have a phenomenal view of a large valley of the Serra da Estrela, with at the end the highest mountain in mainland Portugal, the “Torre”.
Just 5 minutes from the accommodation Plano5 is our holiday home on Quinta do Vale. The quinta consists of several buildings. The buildings on the quinta are constructed from granite blocks and restored to their original state. The quinta consists of the main building and a number of outbuildings. One of these has been converted into a guesthouse. The main building is used as a residence by the owners.
In total, the grounds comprise 6.6 hectares. Part of it is in use as garden around the 2 houses. The other part is forest. On the quinta there are many grape vines, but also olive, citrus and other fruit trees, interspersed with flower beds.
The surroundings
If you want to walk during your holiday, you can take several routes directly from Plano5 but also from the holiday home.
By car you can wander around for hours through the woods and visit various places of interest, including the nearby Senhora das Preças pilgrimage site and the protected slate village of Piódão. Plano5 is situated 60 km from Covilhã, 45 km from the Torre and 80 km from Coimbra. In short, an ideal base to explore the surroundings during your holiday in Portugal.
There are various natural swimming pools and beaches in the area, and you can go canoeing or fishing, among other things. In the winter you can enjoy the snow or go skiing at about a 45 minute drive from Plano5.
